That's odd, WMP works fine on my FF2 and I didn't have to do any of those steps... I wonder what caused yours to be different.

I had to do it to four different machines.

* My home desktop (new install of XP, and new install of FF 1.5 two months ago).

* My laptop (upgrade from FF 1.5 to FF 2.0)

* My parents computer (new install of FF2 over Xmas 2006)

* My sister's new laptop for Xmas. At which, I just got fed up and un-installed it from all of the above machines - except my development laptop.

Remember, I do not use FF mainstream, so I never "enabled" the old plugins, before the upgrades of WMP and Flash. How old is your FF install? Not asking how new your FF2 install is, but how old was the original time you installed FF1.5 or alike and have upgraded from there? It seems upgrades aren't effected, just new installs.
